Do you stretch before you play golf? If not, you should! By allowing just an 5 extra minutes to stretch before dashing to the tee will more than likely help you play better golf… not to mention enjoy it more and reduce the chance of injury.
We spoke to our in-house 3R Physiotherapy team who suggested trying these 6 Simple Stretches Before You Play Golf next time.
- Complete 10-15 repetitions of each exercise.
- Repetitions should be completed at a slow pace.
- Do not push into sharp pain.
Wrist Circles
Rotate your wrists gently clockwise and then anticlockwise.
Arm Circles
With your arms fully extended start with small circles and gradually build to larger circles. Complete in clockwise and anticlockwise directions.
Trunk Rotations
With your golf club resting on your shoulders and feet shoulder width apart, gently twist from left to right.
Trunk Bends
Standing with your feet shoulder width apart. Take your left hand over head and bend to the right then repeat using your right hand and bend to the left.
Leg Swings
Holding onto the wall or a golf club, gently swing your left leg forwards and backwards. Repeat using your right leg.
Standing Squat
With your feet shoulder width apart, bend at your hips and knees into a squat position and then return to a standing position.
